New Castle, DE – A deadly hit-and-run unfolded Monday night when a pedestrian was struck and left for dead along South Dupont Highway, launching a police investigation and four-hour road closure just south of Pulaski Highway.

Around 8:00 p.m., the pedestrian was walking northbound in the southbound lanes of South Dupont Highway when an unknown vehicle traveling in the same direction hit them. The force of the impact sent the victim into a nearby wooded area, where EMS discovered the body while responding to an unrelated emergency.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not yet been confirmed.

The vehicle involved fled the scene, and police have not released a description of the car or driver. Investigators with Delaware State Police Troop 2’s Collision Reconstruction Unit processed the crash site, which closed the roadway for several hours overnight.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information that could help identify the driver to come forward. The investigation remains open.
