Man hurls slurs and chases victim in East Harlem hate crime incident

Manhattan, NY – Police are searching for a suspect who shouted anti-LGBTQIA+ remarks and chased a man in East Harlem during a late-night confrontation earlier this summer.

The incident happened around 10:40 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, at East 104th Street and 3rd Avenue. A 28-year-old man was standing at the intersection when he was approached by an unidentified individual who made anti-LGBTQIA+ statements, hurled an empty milk carton at him, and then gave chase.

The victim was not injured. The suspect fled northbound on 3rd Avenue and has not been located.

The NYPD confirmed the case is being investigated by the department’s Hate Crime Task Force. Police released images of the individual and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him.
