Teen arrested in Southeast DC shooting that left juvenile injured
WASHINGTON, DC – A 16-year-old boy is now in custody after police linked him to a shooting that left another juvenile wounded in Southeast last month, following a broad daylight burst of gunfire along a busy stretch of Martin Luther King Jr Avenue.
Around 4 p.m. on Monday, August 18, Seventh District officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 2700 block of Martin Luther King Jr Avenue, Southeast. When they arrived, they found shell casings at the scene, but no victim.
Shortly after, officers were alerted that a juvenile male had arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds. The victim was conscious and breathing when he arrived, though the extent of his injuries has not been released.
The investigation led police to a 16-year-old male from Southeast, DC, who was arrested on Tuesday and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun).
Police have not released a motive or said whether the individuals knew each other. Due to his age, the suspect’s name has not been made public.
The case remains active, and police are seeking additional information. A reward of up to $10,000 is available for tips leading to an arrest and conviction in connection to the shooting.
