GEORGETOWN, Del. – A 55-year-old man is behind bars after investigators say he broke into a home while the resident slept and stole his wallet, later using the victim’s credit card at a convenience store.
Delaware State Police said troopers were called to a residence on the 20000 block of Wilson Road on September 9 around 3:40 p.m. after a 67-year-old man reported a burglary. Detectives determined that someone had entered the home earlier in the day and taken the man’s wallet before leaving undetected.
Investigators soon discovered that the victim’s credit card had been used at a nearby store the same day. Police identified the suspect as Louis Bland, Jr. of Georgetown and secured a warrant for his arrest.
On September 18, Bland was taken into custody by Millsboro police in connection with a separate matter. State police then charged him with first-degree burglary, two felony counts of theft from a senior victim, and unlawful use of a payment card involving an elderly victim.
Bland was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $26,000 cash bond.
