Wilkes-Barre fugitive caught with drug paraphernalia after giving false name to police

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – A late-night alarm call led police to arrest a city man wanted in New York after he allegedly gave officers a false identity and was later found carrying drug paraphernalia.

Police said the incident began around 11:30 p.m. on September 18, when officers responded to a business alarm on South Main Street. At the scene, they encountered 22-year-old Shateek Telfair of Wilkes-Barre, who was loitering outside the business.

During questioning, investigators said Telfair initially gave a false name. Officers were able to verify his true identity and learned that he was wanted on an active warrant issued by the New York City Police Department.

Telfair was taken into custody. Police said a search incident to arrest uncovered drug paraphernalia in his possession. He was transported to city headquarters for processing and arraignment on charges of fugitive from justice and false identification to law enforcement.
