CHICAGO, IL – A 26-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old man on the city’s South Side, police announced Monday.
Authorities identified the suspect as Maynor Vasquez Gomez of the 13200 block of South Brandon Avenue.
Police said Gomez was arrested around 3:09 a.m. Sunday in the 6400 block of South Spaulding Avenue.
He was identified as the individual responsible for a shooting about an hour earlier in the 6400 block of South Fairfield Avenue that left a 23-year-old male victim dead.
Officers from the Chicago Police Department’s 8th District took Gomez into custody without further incident.
Suspect faces first-degree murder charge
Gomez has been charged with one felony count of first-degree murder and is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing Tuesday at 2600 South California Avenue.
Investigators have not released the victim’s name pending notification of family.
Investigation continues
Detectives are reviewing evidence and witness statements as they continue to piece together the events leading to the shooting.
Police have not disclosed a motive or whether the suspect and victim knew each other.
