CHERRY HILL, NJ – Cherry Hill residents are being warned about a phone scam in which callers impersonate local police officers in an effort to steal personal and financial information.
The Cherry Hill Police Department confirmed Tuesday that multiple reports have been received about the fraudulent calls and text messages.
Scammers are pretending to be police personnel and urging residents to provide sensitive information.
Officials stressed that the department never asks for personal details, money, or payment information over the phone.
Police warn residents not to engage
Authorities are urging anyone who receives such a call to hang up immediately, avoid clicking on any links, and contact the department’s non-emergency number at 856-665-1200.
Police said victims should never call the scam number back, but instead manually dial verified numbers when reporting incidents.
