Senior dog dumped at shelter just wants peace and a couch

Senior dog with heart condition waits for loving home at Ocean County shelter

JACKSON, NJ – A senior dog named Deuce is capturing hearts at the Northern Ocean County Animal Facility, where staff and volunteers are urgently hoping to find him a foster or adoptive home as he battles a heart condition in the twilight of his life.

The 9 to 10-year-old dog was brought to the shelter after becoming homeless. Since then, he has been placed on medication and is said to be responding well. Still, shelter officials say the environment is far from ideal for an aging dog with medical needs.

Deuce is described as friendly, curious, and gentle. He enjoys quiet walks, soft spaces, and time with people. While he is available for general adoption, a rescue group is reportedly ready to take him in immediately if a foster family steps forward.

He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccinations, making him ready for placement. The shelter recommends a calm home, ideally with older children, to match his easygoing temperament.

Anyone interested in meeting Deuce can visit the facility daily between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. at 615 Freemont Avenue in Jackson, New Jersey.
