Westminster mom wins $50K scratch-off prize after impulse purchase at Owings Mills store

Baltimore, MD – A Carroll County mother claimed a $50,000 scratch-off prize this week after buying a ticket on impulse at a liquor store in Owings Mills, marking the biggest lottery win of her life.

The Westminster resident purchased the winning “$” scratch-off ticket at Sam’s Wine & Spirits, located at 11130 Reisterstown Road, back in August. She visited Maryland Lottery headquarters on October 17 to officially claim her prize.

She selected the “$” ticket because only a few remained at the store. The decision paid off almost immediately when she uncovered a $50,000 top prize.

The “$” scratch-off game, launched in December 2023, originally offered eight top prizes of $50,000. Following this win, only one top prize remains available, in addition to two $5,000 prizes and seven $1,000 prizes still unclaimed.

Sam’s Wine & Spirits will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

The winner, who is a wife and mother, said she has not yet made plans for the prize but described the moment of winning as unforgettable.
