Holmdel honors retiring police chief as new leader prepares to take command

HOLMDEL, NJ – The Township of Holmdel will celebrate a major change in police leadership Monday as longtime Chief Frank Allocco retires after nearly four decades of service and Jeffrey Ackerson is sworn in as the department’s next chief.

The township announced the dual ceremonies in a message to residents Friday.

Both events will be open to the public and held hours apart.

Key Points

  • Chief Frank Allocco retires after 39 years with Holmdel Police
  • A public “walk-out” ceremony will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at Town Hall
  • Jeffrey Ackerson to be sworn in as new chief at Bell Works Theater at 6 p.m.

Farewell to a longtime community leader

Chief Allocco’s walk-out ceremony will take place in front of Holmdel Town Hall, giving residents, colleagues, and township officials a final opportunity to thank him for his 39 years of dedication to the department. The township described his career as one marked by “devoted service” to both the department and community.

Following the event, Allocco will officially conclude his service, ending a career that has spanned nearly four decades of policing and public safety leadership in Holmdel.

A new chapter for Holmdel Police

Later that evening, the township will welcome incoming Chief Jeffrey Ackerson at a 6 p.m. swearing-in ceremony at the Bell Works Theater. The public is encouraged to attend and join local officials in marking the department’s next chapter.

The Township Committee and Holmdel Police Department say they hope to see strong community turnout for both ceremonies to honor outgoing Chief Allocco and celebrate Chief Ackerson’s appointment.
