Teen motorcyclist killed after high-speed crash during police pursuit in Bristow

Bristow, VA – A 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed Saturday night after colliding with a car while fleeing from police conducting speed enforcement along Nokesville Road.

The fatal crash occurred around 7:59 p.m. near the intersection of Linton Hall Road and Nokesville Road.

Police identified the victim as Edwin Stephen Essiaw of Manassas.

Police say rider fled speed enforcement stop

According to Prince William County Police, an officer was conducting stationary speed checks near Nokesville Road and Stadler Place when a 2004 Kawasaki ZX-6R motorcycle was seen traveling southbound at a high rate of speed. The officer activated emergency lights, but the motorcyclist allegedly turned off his headlights and accelerated.

Collision occurred during attempted right turn

Moments later, a 2024 Nissan Sentra was stopped at a red light on Linton Hall Road before making a right turn onto Nokesville Road. The motorcycle then collided with the Nissan, throwing the rider from the bike.

One dead, one injured

Essiaw was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Nissan driver, a 50-year-old woman from Bealeton, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Investigation ongoing

Crash investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or observed the motorcycle prior to impact to contact Prince William County Police. The department continues to review evidence and witness statements to determine the full circumstances of the fatal pursuit.
