Wife’s push turns lawn care numbers into $150K lottery prize

Upper Marlboro man hits $150K Pick 5 jackpot after acting on wife’s advice

Upper Marlboro, MD — A 35-year Maryland Lottery player is celebrating a $150,000 win after acting on a hunch — and a timely suggestion from his wife — that led him to play a single set of numbers three times in the Pick 5 game.

The longtime player claimed his prize on October 31 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, revealing that the winning combination — 1, 3, 6, 0, 5 — came to him unexpectedly while doing yard work. He recalled that the numbers came to mind while cutting his neighbor’s grass and stuck with him throughout the day. Once home, his wife encouraged him to play them.

Instead of buying just one ticket, he entered the same number combination into three separate Pick 5 plays. Each ticket hit the exact combination, earning him $50,000 per win for a total of $150,000.

The tickets were purchased at Express Mart, located at 15709 Hall Road in Bowie. The store will receive a $1,500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery — $500 for each winning ticket.

The winner said he plans to use the money to manage financial responsibilities, take a road trip, and treat his wife, whom he considers his good luck charm. While he has played nearly every Maryland Lottery game over the years, including Mega Millions, Powerball, and various scratch-offs, this win came from one of his occasional Pick 5 plays.

This win adds to the list of recent high-tier Maryland Lottery payouts in Prince George’s County.
