Maryland teacher hits $459K jackpot after gas station stop

St. Mary’s County teacher wins $459,932 FAST PLAY jackpot at gas station kiosk

GREAT MILLS, MD — A St. Mary’s County elementary school teacher is now holding a winning ticket worth $459,932 after a routine stop to gas up his car led to a progressive jackpot win in Maryland’s FAST PLAY Fat Wallet game.

The Southern Maryland resident purchased two $10 Fat Wallet tickets at the Sheetz located at 20760 Old Great Mills Road in Great Mills. After scanning the first ticket and finding it was not a winner, the second ticket returned a message directing him to contact the Lottery. Upon reviewing the ticket, the player discovered a match with the progressive jackpot number.

The win was claimed on November 18 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. The player had never seen a win of this size and stated he needed time to process the experience. Prior to this, his purchases were usually small and occasional.

The $10 Fat Wallet game featured a progressive jackpot that increased with every ticket sold. It launched in July 2024 and this latest win officially closes the game, with no more progressive jackpots available.

The retailer, Sheetz, will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the top-prize ticket.
