Philadelphia, PA – A woman was killed early Thursday morning after being struck by a speeding vehicle that fled the scene in West Philadelphia, authorities said.
The crash occurred around 4:17 a.m. on the 3300 block of Market Street in the city’s 18th District.
According to police, a silver Chrysler 300 with tinted windows was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when the driver ran a red light and hit a pedestrian crossing in the crosswalk.
Witnesses told investigators that the impact threw the victim several hundred feet down Market Street before the driver continued eastbound without stopping.
Philadelphia Fire Department medics rushed the victim, identified as 48-year-old Meaza Brown of the 400 block of West Shunk Street, to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. She suffered multiple injuries and internal bleeding and was pronounced dead at 4:59 a.m.
Vehicle recovered, driver still at large
Police said the Chrysler 300 believed to have been involved in the crash was located later in the morning near 34th and Race Streets. No arrests have been made.
Investigators from the Philadelphia Police Department’s Accident Investigation Division are continuing to process evidence and review nearby surveillance footage.

Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the driver to contact the Accident Investigation Division. Tips can be submitted anonymously to the department’s tip line or through the city’s online reporting portal.
