Teen fighting for life after overnight shooting in West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, PA – A 19-year-old man was critically wounded early Thursday after gunfire erupted outside a home in West Philadelphia, police said.

Officers from the 12th District were called to the 1400 block of South Vogdes Street around 1:16 a.m. for reports of a person with a gun and shots fired.

Arriving units found several spent shell casings scattered outside the property and bullet holes in both the front door and window.

Inside, residents told police the victim had already been taken to a hospital by private vehicle.

The man later arrived at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with gunshot wounds to the chest.

Police searching for shooter

The victim was transferred to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition, according to authorities.

No arrests have been made, and police have not released information on a possible suspect or motive.

The department’s Shooting Investigation Group is handling the case and canvassing the area for surveillance footage and witnesses.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Philadelphia Police tip line.
