Woman arrested after mother found stabbed to death in Virginia apartment

McNair, VA – A 31-year-old woman is accused of stabbing her mother, 79, to death at their home in a suburban Virginia neighborhood. Helena Little has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Norma Little.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 10 a.m. A caregiver discovered the victim on the floor of the apartment, covered with stab wounds and under an overturned recliner chair.

The caregiver immediately contacted law enforcement. Upon arrival, officers noted a strong smell of cleaning products in the apartment, which was in disarray.

An autopsy later confirmed the cause of death as sharp force trauma to the neck. Evidence collected from video footage, key fob activity, and witness statements linked Helena Little to the crime scene.

Authorities learned that Norma Little had limited mobility and required assistance from caregivers and her two adult children.

Helena Little allegedly left the apartment with a backpack and the family dog before fleeing the scene. She was arrested approximately five miles away in Reston, Virginia.

Helena Little is currently held in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond.
