BOSTON, MA – A late-night police chase through Dorchester led to the arrest of a Mattapan man and the recovery of a loaded handgun, according to Boston police.
Officers from District C-11 responded around 10:50 p.m. Saturday to a report of several people loitering outside a store at 146 Dorchester Avenue.
Police said one man, later identified as 28-year-old Dequan Mitchell, separated from the group and began walking away before breaking into a run when officers approached.

Officers recover weapon after brief chase
According to investigators, officers noticed Mitchell clutching his right side and saw the outline of a metal object inside his jacket. When ordered to stop, he zipped his pocket and fled toward Washington Street and Columbia Road. Officers chased and detained him a short distance away at 63 Washington Street.
Police said a pat frisk revealed a SCCY CPX-2 handgun loaded with seven rounds inside Mitchell’s jacket pocket. District detectives processed the weapon at the scene and confirmed it was unlicensed.
Mitchell faces charges including carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a firearm without an FID card, and possession of ammunition without an FID card. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
