WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ – Police have charged a Jersey City man in connection with a string of commercial burglaries that struck several Monmouth County businesses earlier this year.
According to the Wall Township Police Department, 34-year-old Dashawn Durant was identified and charged following a months-long investigation into a series of overnight break-ins that occurred along the State Highway 33/34 corridor in May.
On May 9, patrol officers responded to reports of burglaries at Perusa, Smokehouse Grill & BBQ, and the Roadside Diner. Investigators determined that forced entry had been made into each location during the night, with cash stolen from two of the businesses and extensive property damage reported.
Detectives connect suspect through multi-agency effort
Detective Devin Corso led the Wall Township investigation in coordination with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and multiple nearby police departments.
Through inter-agency intelligence sharing, authorities determined the burglaries were part of a broader pattern affecting multiple counties. Using shared investigative resources, detectives linked Durant to the Wall Township incidents.
Durant charged while already in custody
Durant, who was already being held on unrelated charges in a separate Somerset County case, has been charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of theft, and two counts of criminal mischief.
Police said a second suspect was also involved, and the investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to identify that individual.
Police emphasize importance of inter-agency cooperation
“This arrest highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies,” said Lieutenant Steven Nash. “By sharing intelligence and resources with our partners in Somerset County and beyond, we were able to identify and charge Durant for victimizing our local business community.”
Wall Township Police credited the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey State Police for their assistance in the case.
