NORTH TONAWANDA, NY – A 23-year-old man was arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly stealing a vehicle and dragging its owner during a failed confrontation on Webster Street.
The incident happened around 3:15 a.m., when North Tonawanda Police responded to a report of a freshly stolen vehicle.
Officers learned that the car had been taken from in front of a business, and the owner had tried to stop the suspect before being dragged by the moving vehicle.
A short time later, police located and stopped the stolen car within city limits. The owner, who was also found in Tonawanda, was not injured.
Suspect charged with multiple felonies
Authorities identified the suspect as Sebastian Reid, 23, of North Tonawanda. Reid faces multiple charges, including grand larceny in the third degree, aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree, reckless endangerment in the second degree, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in the third degree, and driving while intoxicated.
Police confirmed that Reid was arraigned in North Tonawanda City Court and released on his own recognizance under New York State Bail Reform laws.
Cooperation between departments credited
The North Tonawanda Police Department expressed appreciation to the City of Tonawanda Police for their assistance in locating the vehicle.
Chief Keith Glass said the quick coordination between departments led to the safe recovery of the vehicle and the suspect’s arrest.
Reid faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following the North Tonawanda vehicle theft incident.
