Ronald Rashad Givhan, 42, was captured in Brooklyn one day after a 31-year-old woman suffered significant face and eye injuries in a domestic assault, police said
NEW ROCHELLE, NY – A Brooklyn man already wanted in connection with a Bronx double homicide was captured Monday after allegedly pistol-whipping a 31-year-old woman during a domestic assault in New Rochelle, leaving her with significant injuries to her face and eye, police said.
Ronald Rashad Givhan, 42, of Brooklyn, was identified by New Rochelle Police as the suspect in the assault reported at approximately 4:39 a.m. Sunday at 23 1st Street.
Officers responding to the apartment learned that the New Rochelle woman had allegedly been struck with a handgun.
Initial information indicated Givhan might still be inside the apartment, but officers determined he had fled before they arrived.
During the investigation, detectives learned Givhan was also wanted by the NYPD in connection with a double homicide that occurred in the Bronx in June, according to New Rochelle Police.
New Rochelle detectives worked with the FBI and NYPD to develop leads that took investigators to an apartment in Brooklyn.
On Monday, New Rochelle detectives, NYPD detectives and FBI personnel located Givhan inside the apartment and took him into custody without incident, police said.
A firearm was recovered at the Brooklyn location. Police did not state in the announcement whether investigators believe it was the weapon allegedly used during the New Rochelle assault.
Givhan remains in NYPD custody in connection with the Bronx double homicide investigation, according to New Rochelle Police.
New Rochelle Police said Givhan will face a first-degree assault charge stemming from the alleged pistol-whipping. Formal charges are expected to be filed with the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office before court dates are scheduled.
The department did not provide additional information about the June double homicide or identify the victims in that case.
The allegations against Givhan have not been proven in court, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
