PHILADELPHIA, P.A. – A woman was taken into custody early Monday after allegedly stabbing a man inside a West Philadelphia residence, leaving him critically injured.
The incident occurred around 12:06 a.m. on the 100 block of South Ruby Street, where responding officers found a male victim suffering from a stab wound to the chest on the second floor.
Medics transported the man to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.
Police identified the suspect as 39-year-old Nyeemia Maxey, who was located on the first floor of the home and admitted to the stabbing before being taken into custody.
Two others injured in violent domestic incident
A 44-year-old female witness sustained a cut to her hand during the altercation and was also transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center for treatment. Maxey was later taken to Jefferson Hospital to be treated for a neck injury sustained before her arrest.
Investigators recovered a knife with apparent blood stains from the scene.
Charges filed against suspect
Maxey has been charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and related offenses. Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including what led to the confrontation inside the residence.
Police say no additional suspects are being sought at this time.
