Anne Arundel County Police arrested a 20-year-old Elkridge man after officers say they spotted him attempting to conceal the weapon

CURTIS BAY, MD – A routine traffic stop in Curtis Bay took a turn early Sunday when officers allegedly spotted a back-seat passenger trying to hide a loaded handgun inside the vehicle, leading to the 20-year-old man’s arrest.

Anne Arundel County Police said Eastern District officers initiated the traffic stop at approximately 12:20 a.m. in the area of Kembo Road and Swan Creek Drive.

The vehicle had been stopped for a traffic violation, according to police.

During the stop, officers said they observed a rear passenger attempting to conceal a loaded handgun inside the vehicle.

Police identified the passenger as Luis Eduardo Pineda Perdono, 20, of Elkridge.

Pineda Perdono was arrested and charged, according to the department.

Police did not specify the charges in the information released or provide details about the handgun.

The department also did not identify the driver or disclose the traffic violation that prompted the initial stop.

The allegations have not been proven in court.
