SWAT team captures wanted man in connection with Forest Hills Boulevard homicide.
COLUMBUS, OH – After more than four years on the run, a suspect wanted in connection with a 2021 fatal shooting in northeast Columbus has been arrested, police announced. Andre Stromer, the man accused in the death of Keishawn Riley, was taken into custody by Columbus Police SWAT officers without incident on December 10.
The original incident occurred on May 21, 2021, around 2:05 p.m., when officers responded to reports of gunfire in a parking lot along the 5000 block of Forest Hills Boulevard. When they arrived, police found Riley suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced dead at 2:37 p.m. despite life-saving efforts by medical staff.
Following the homicide, detectives identified Stromer as a suspect and secured a murder warrant for his arrest. Investigators have not disclosed Stromer’s location during the years since the warrant was issued but confirmed that coordinated efforts by multiple divisions led to his recent apprehension.
Years-long investigation leads to arrest
Detectives continued to pursue leads in the case since the 2021 shooting, gathering evidence and working with partner agencies to locate Stromer. Officials said the suspect was taken into custody peacefully during a planned SWAT operation this week. No injuries or additional arrests were reported during the arrest.
Police have not released further details regarding Stromer’s motive or the events leading up to the shooting. He has been charged with murder and is currently being held in the Franklin County Jail pending court proceedings.
