Chicago man charged with murder and attempted murder in west side shooting

CHICAGO, IL – A Chicago man has been charged with multiple felonies, including first-degree murder and attempted murder, in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred last month on the city’s West Side, police announced Wednesday.

According to the Chicago Police Department, 31-year-old Zakaria Abdrahim, of the 7500 block of North Wolcott Avenue, was taken into custody on December 15 in the 6000 block of North Kenmore Avenue. Investigators identified Abdrahim as the suspect in a November 21 incident in which a 31-year-old man was shot and killed, and a 26-year-old woman was critically injured during an armed robbery in the 4500 block of West Fifth Avenue, within the 11th District.

Police said Abdrahim allegedly took property from the female victim before shooting both victims with a firearm. The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

Abdrahim faces five felony counts, including one count of first-degree murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder, one count of murder with a strong probability of death or injury, one count of murder during the commission of another forcible felony, and one count of armed robbery with a firearm.

He is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing on Thursday, December 18, at 2600 South California Avenue.

Police said no further details are being released as the investigation remains ongoing.
