Baltimore, MD – A 31-year-old Essex man was killed Saturday morning in a four-vehicle crash on the inner loop of I-695 near Perring Parkway, according to Maryland State Police. The victim, identified as James Beckham, was driving a Nissan Sentra that struck another vehicle, triggering a chain-reaction collision.
Troopers from the Golden Ring Barrack responded shortly after 8 a.m. and found multiple vehicles damaged across the roadway. Investigators said Beckham’s Nissan Sentra hit the corner of a Toyota C-HR, leading to additional impacts with a Nissan Altima and a Toyota RAV4. Beckham was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the Nissan Altima, identified as 26-year-old Dante Summers of Nottingham, was transported to a hospital with injuries, while the drivers of the Toyota C-HR and the Toyota RAV4, along with a passenger in the RAV4, were uninjured.
Maryland State Police closed the inner loop of I-695 for several hours as crash reconstruction teams investigated and cleared the scene. All lanes reopened around 11:30 a.m. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
