EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. – With December 23 historically ranking among the most dangerous travel days of the year, the Egg Harbor Township Police Department is stepping up patrols across key traffic corridors in anticipation of heavy holiday congestion.

According to the department, officers will focus enforcement efforts on sections of the township identified within New Jersey’s High Injury Network, including Black Horse Pike in West Atlantic City, Washington Avenue near the Garden State Parkway entrance and exit, and Ocean Heights Avenue near Zion Road.

The increased patrols coincide with data from AAA, which predicts that travel between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on December 23 will see the worst congestion of the holiday period, surpassing even Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

The department said officers will be strategically deployed during Tuesday evening’s statewide traffic operation with a unified mission of preventing fatalities, serious injuries, and impaired driving incidents on local and state roadways.

Drivers are urged to plan routes carefully, avoid distractions, and remain alert during the afternoon rush as families and travelers make their final holiday commutes.
