Woman killed in Wilmington hit-and-run as driver flees crash scene
Wilmington, DE – A 40-year-old woman from Dallas was struck and killed by a vehicle in a hit-and-run late Sunday night in Wilmington, prompting a search for the driver who fled the scene, Delaware State Police said.
The fatal crash happened around 9:15 p.m. on East Lea Boulevard near Colony Boulevard. Troopers responded to reports of a pedestrian down in the roadway. Preliminary findings show the woman was on East Lea Boulevard when she was hit by an unknown vehicle traveling in an undetermined direction.
The driver did not stop, and no witnesses were immediately available to provide a description of the vehicle.
The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
State police shut down the roadway for about two hours to process the scene and begin their investigation. Authorities are now asking for the public’s help in identifying the vehicle or driver involved, including any available surveillance or dashcam footage from the area.
