Newark announces street closures for film production in downtown area

Intermittent road shutdowns expected Wednesday across key corridors, officials say.

NEWARK, N.J. – The Newark Department of Public Safety has issued a traffic advisory for multiple street closures across downtown Newark on Wednesday due to a scheduled film production, impacting several major roadways and commuter routes.

Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. announced that closures will occur at varying times throughout April 8, affecting areas near Lafayette Street, Mulberry Street, Raymond Boulevard, and Mayor Kenneth A. Gibson Boulevard. The production activity is expected to cause intermittent disruptions rather than continuous shutdowns.

Multiple closures throughout the day

From 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., closures will affect Lafayette Street between Mayor Kenneth A. Gibson Boulevard and Mulberry Street, as well as Mulberry Street between Lafayette Street and Raymond Boulevard.

A broader set of closures will be in place from 8 a.m. through 4 a.m. the following day. These include Mayor Kenneth A. Gibson Boulevard between Lafayette Street and Raymond Boulevard, Park Place between Raymond Boulevard and East Park Street, and repeated closures along Mulberry Street and Lafayette Street within the same corridor.

Key Points
• Newark implementing intermittent street closures Wednesday for film production
• Affected roads include Lafayette Street, Mulberry Street, and Raymond Boulevard
• Drivers urged to expect delays and use alternate routes

Advisory for drivers and residents

City officials are advising motorists to plan ahead, anticipate delays, and seek alternate routes while production activity is underway. The impacted area includes heavily traveled downtown streets near business and transit hubs, increasing the likelihood of congestion.

Film productions in urban centers like Newark are common and can bring economic activity, but they often require temporary traffic adjustments to accommodate equipment, crews, and filming schedules.

The Newark Department of Public Safety said closures will remain in effect intermittently throughout the designated times. No additional disruptions or incidents have been reported, and normal traffic patterns are expected to resume following completion of filming.
