A late-night argument inside a North Philadelphia home ended in a fatal stabbing that left a 61-year-old man dying on his own porch, according to police.
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Officers responding to a report of a person with a weapon Saturday night found Kevin Jenkins lying on the porch of a home on the 600 block of West Wingohocking Street with multiple stab wounds to his neck, police said. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after midnight Sunday.
Police said the suspect, 28-year-old Devin Jenkins, was inside the home at the time of the incident and was taken into custody shortly after officers arrived.
Investigation and charges
According to a news release from the Philadelphia Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 11:34 p.m. after receiving “reports of a person with a weapon.” When they arrived, they found the victim “lying on the porch of the property with multiple stab wounds to his neck.”
Authorities allege the stabbing followed an argument between father and son that occurred shortly before police were called. Officials have not disclosed what led to the dispute.
Devin Jenkins has been charged with murder and possession of an instrument of crime with intent, according to court records. He is being held without bail at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility.
Medical response and custody
Emergency responders transported Kevin Jenkins to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:11 a.m. Sunday. Police said Devin Jenkins was also taken to a hospital for treatment of “a minor laceration to his left index finger” before being processed and placed into custody.
Authorities confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing and have not released additional details about the events leading up to the stabbing.
Devin Jenkins appeared in court Monday for a preliminary arraignment. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 20.
