County officials highlight Revolutionary War history and upcoming themed games as part of nationwide semiquincentennial events.

Bridgewater, New Jersey – The Somerset County Board of County Commissioners joined the Somerset Patriots at TD Bank Ballpark on April 3 to celebrate opening day, kicking off a season that will also serve as a centerpiece for local events commemorating America’s 250th anniversary. County leaders attended the game wearing special edition “250” team gear, signaling a broader partnership between local government and the minor league franchise to highlight the region’s historic significance.

The Somerset County Board of County Commissioners said the collaboration with the Somerset Patriots is part of a yearlong initiative to recognize the county’s role in the American Revolution while engaging residents through community events tied to baseball, widely known as the nation’s pastime.

Special themed games planned for July and August

As part of the celebration, the Somerset Patriots will temporarily rebrand as the “Somerset Semiquincentennials” for four games during the 2026 season. The themed games are scheduled for July 3, July 4, July 5, and August 15, aligning with Independence Day festivities and peak summer attendance.

County officials say the games are designed to blend historical reflection with community engagement, drawing attention to both national milestones and local heritage sites throughout Somerset County.

Commissioner Director Shanel Y. Robinson emphasized the significance of the anniversary and the role of community events in bringing history to life.

“This year is an important year for America, we are celebrating 250 years of being a democratic society,” Robinson said. “It seems only fitting that as we reflect upon our collective history and explore our local historical haunts, that we also revel in America’s National Pastime.”
