BERKELEY TWP: Berkeley Township Partners with Fulfill, (formerly the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties) to provide emergency “crisis” food kits to families in need during the COVID-19 outbreak.
The emergency “crisis” food kits, provides a family of four, basic groceries to help residents struggling because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayor Carmen Amato, who served on the People’s Pantry Board said, “I have seen firsthand how many families struggle from food insecurity. The COVID-19 pandemic has amplified this problem because so many more in our community are struggling. We are here to help in any way we can to help lighten the load for our families and seniors.”
Emergency “crisis” food kits will be distributed at 3 locations – Holiday City @ Berkeley Clubhouse parking lot, the Berkeley Recreation Center located on Route 9 in Bayville and the Citta Moffitt real estate office in South Seaside Park.
As recommended by the Centers for Disease Control, the pickup sites will be practicing social distancing and limiting interactions. Volunteers will be issued (PPE) Personal Protection Equipment. The distribution of the food kits at each location will be by drive thru.
Residents will remain in their vehicle with the windows closed. We ask them to open the trunk and our volunteers will put the kit in the trunk or truck bed. For those seniors homebound or families without transportation, the emergency “crisis” food kits will be delivered. The volunteer delivery person will have no contact as the food kit will be left at the door or porch.
Mayor Amato added, “I would like to thank CEO Kim Guadagno and Filfill for providing the food along with our local residents and restaurants for making donations.”
