Deadly morning gunfire rocks Southeast DC after woman found unresponsive
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A woman was found fatally shot on a Southeast Washington street Tuesday morning after officers responded to reports of an unconscious person lying outside, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Police said officers from the Seventh District were dispatched around 6:29 a.m. to the 1300 block of Congress Street Southeast.
When officers arrived, they discovered an adult woman unconscious, not breathing and suffering from gunshot wounds.
DC Fire and EMS crews responded to the scene and attempted lifesaving measures, but the woman was pronounced dead at the location, police said.
Authorities later identified the victim as 30-year-old Jasmine Malone, who police said had no fixed address.
The Metropolitan Police Department is continuing to investigate the homicide.
Investigators urged anyone with information connected to the shooting to contact police or submit anonymous tips through the department’s text tip line.
Police said a reward of up to $25,000 is available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for homicides committed in the District.
No arrests have been announced.
