Hotel Guest Beaten, Bound and Robbed at Gunpoint Gets Justice as Attacker Sentenced to 13 Years

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS, N.J. — A man who pistol-whipped a hotel guest, tied her to a chair and robbed her at gunpoint inside a Parsippany hotel has been sentenced to 13 years in New Jersey state prison. Louis M. Verdesoto, 35, formerly of West New York, received the sentence Friday for his role in the violent 2024 attack that left the victim hospitalized with head injuries and facial lacerations.

The sentence closes a case that began with a terrifying early-morning robbery at the Ramada by Wyndham Parsippany on Route 46 and ended with investigators tracking down the suspect months later.

Violent Hotel Robbery Left Victim Bound

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert M. McNally and Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Chief Richard Pantina announced the sentencing on May 29.

According to prosecutors, the attack occurred during the early morning hours of May 26, 2024, when a hotel guest reported being assaulted by an unknown man armed with a handgun.

Investigators said Verdesoto struck the victim in the face with the firearm before allowing a second unidentified suspect into the hotel room.

The two men then duct-taped and zip-tied the victim to a chair while demanding money.

After obtaining cash, the suspects fled the room, leaving the woman restrained.

The victim eventually freed herself and contacted police. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment of multiple head injuries and facial lacerations.

Investigation Linked Suspect to Attack

Authorities said investigators from the Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department, Morris County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigations Unit and Morris County Prosecutor’s Office developed a timeline of events that ultimately identified Verdesoto as a suspect.

He was arrested on Aug. 6, 2024, in West New York.

During the arrest, investigators searched his vehicle and recovered a handgun and zip ties. A search of his last known residence uncovered clothing matching items worn by the suspect captured on surveillance video, prosecutors said.

Verdesoto remained in custody following his arrest.

• Louis M. Verdesoto was sentenced to 13 years in state prison for armed robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm.
• Prosecutors said he pistol-whipped, bound and robbed a hotel guest at the Ramada by Wyndham Parsippany.

Guilty Plea Led to Lengthy Prison Term

On Sept. 19, 2025, Verdesoto pleaded guilty to first-degree armed robbery and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

As part of the plea, he admitted that he committed a theft while inflicting bodily injury on the victim with a handgun.

On Friday, Superior Court Judge Robert M. Hanna sentenced Verdesoto to an aggregate term of 13 years in New Jersey State Prison.

The sentence falls under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act, requiring him to serve 85% of the prison term before becoming eligible for parole.

That means Verdesoto must serve more than 11 years behind bars before parole consideration.

Prosecutors Praise Investigative Effort

Prosecutor Carroll credited multiple agencies for their work in identifying and apprehending the suspect.

Officials specifically acknowledged the Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department, Morris County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigations Unit and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes and Special Enforcement Units.

Carroll also recognized Assistant Prosecutor Alyssa DiSturco and Detective Greg Federici for their roles in securing the conviction.

While Verdesoto has been sentenced, authorities have not announced any charges against the second unidentified suspect described in court records. Verdesoto remains in state custody and must serve the majority of his 13-year sentence before becoming eligible for parole under New Jersey law.
