Authorities say 41-year-old remains in custody after coordinated DEA and SWAT operation in Middle Township
CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, N.J. — A Cape May County man is facing multiple drug and weapons charges after authorities say a coordinated multi-agency operation led to the seizure of cocaine, ecstasy, psilocybin mushrooms, and ammunition during a court-authorized raid in Middle Township.
James A. Murray, 41, of Cape May Court House, was arrested following an investigation that culminated on May 29, 2026, according to Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Middle Township Police Chief Tracey Super.
Officials said the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns, and Narcotics Task Force led the investigation into alleged drug distribution activity involving Murray. The operation was carried out in coordination with the Drug Enforcement Administration, Middle Township Police Department, and the Cape May County Regional SWAT Team.
Authorities executed search warrants on Murray’s residence, vehicle, and person.
During the searches, investigators say they recovered distribution quantities of cocaine, MDMA (ecstasy), psilocybin mushrooms, .38-caliber handgun ammunition, and various items of drug paraphernalia.
Murray was charged with multiple offenses, including possession with intent to distribute cocaine, MDMA, and psilocybin mushrooms, as well as possession of controlled substances, certain persons not to possess ammunition, and distribution of drug paraphernalia.
Officials said Murray was processed and lodged at the Cape May County Correctional Facility, where he remains in custody pending court proceedings.
Prosecutors noted that individuals convicted of third-degree crimes in New Jersey face potential prison sentences of three to five years.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials said they will continue working with federal, state, and local partners to target illegal drug distribution and weapons offenses.
