Person of interest sought after columbus shooting leaves victim fighting for life

Columbus homicide detectives are asking for the public’s help identifying a person of interest who was near the scene of a shooting that left a victim in life-threatening condition.

A shooting in Columbus on Monday afternoon has prompted an active homicide investigation after a victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the 1000 block of Mt. Vernon Avenue. Officers with the Columbus Division of Police responded to the scene at approximately 3:12 p.m. and located the unresponsive victim.

Columbus Fire medics transported the victim to a local hospital, where the individual remained in life-threatening condition, according to authorities.

Detectives Seeking to Identify Person of Interest

Because of the severity of the victim’s injuries, the Columbus Police Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. Detectives said a motive has not yet been determined and no suspect has been identified.

Investigators are now seeking assistance from the public in identifying a person of interest who was in the immediate area when the shooting occurred.

“Detectives are seeking assistance in identifying a person of interest, who was in the immediate area at the time of the shooting,” police said in a public appeal.

Authorities cautioned that the individual “may be armed” and urged anyone with information to contact investigators.

Investigation Remains Active

The preliminary investigation has not revealed what led to the shooting, and detectives continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The preliminary investigation did not reveal a motive for this shooting and a suspect has not been identified,” police said.

Detective Kindler is leading the investigation with assistance from Detective Jude. Officials are encouraging anyone who recognizes the person of interest or has information about the shooting to come forward.
