According to the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department, officers responded during the evening of July 3 to investigate a reported assault involving an adult female and a juvenile victim. Investigators said the confrontation began after the suspect started yelling at the juvenile about the girl’s patriotic-colored sweatpants with political wording.

Video allegedly captured assault

Police said surveillance video showed the suspect striking the juvenile once in the body and once in the face with an open hand before leaving the area without being identified.

Following an investigation by the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department Detective Bureau, detectives identified the suspect on July 6 as Kaitlyn Tracey of Allenhurst.

after turning herself in on municipal charges. Regardless of the charges against her, she still deserves the right to due process. No one belongs in a concentration camp. Kate has helped us plenty of times in the past, been a great friend, and an incredibly supportive person in the NJ punk scene,” Williams wrote. “If you can donate to help cover legal fees, awesome, if you can share, awesome. We’ll be working closely with her loved ones to make sure Kate is safe and has access to her needs while she works through this process.”

The GoFundMe reads:

We, Kate’s friends, are organizing this fundraiser to help cover the legal and immigration expenses she now faces after being detained by ICE on July 13. As she navigates this difficult and uncertain process, we want to ensure she has access to experienced legal representation and the support she needs. Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward her legal defense and related immigration costs. Thank you for standing with Kate and helping us support her during this challenging time.

Suspect arrested and lodged in county jail then released.

Tracey was taken into custody without incident on Monday at police headquarters. After being processed, she was transported to the Ocean County Jail, where she was being held pending a detention hearing under New Jersey’s Criminal Justice Reform Act.

As of this posting, Tracey is no longer listed as an inmate at the Ocean County Jail. It is believed she is now in the custody of U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.

The Point Pleasant Beach Police Department thanked the Asbury Park Police Department, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the Toronto Police Service’s 11th Division, and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Intelligence Team for assisting with the investigation.
