Pittsburgh Man Wanted in Car Wash Stabbing Arrested After Standoff in Stowe Township

A 46-year-old Pittsburgh man accused of stabbing another man at a car wash surrendered to Allegheny County Sheriff's detectives after initially refusing to leave a residence.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – A Pittsburgh man wanted in connection with a stabbing at a car wash has been taken into custody following an operation by the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Kevin M. Kraus announced that 46-year-old Joseph Brandt was arrested Friday after detectives located him at a residence on 10th Street in Stowe Township. Brandt had been charged earlier this week by Pittsburgh Police with aggravated assault in connection with the stabbing.

Detectives negotiated surrender

According to the sheriff’s office, detectives developed information placing Brandt at the residence and responded to the location to execute the arrest. After making repeated announcements, investigators established verbal contact with Brandt, who initially refused to come outside.

Following several minutes of conversation, Brandt surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Allegheny County Jail.

Victim suffered serious leg injury

Authorities said the charges stem from a stabbing at a car wash on Bajo Street off Becks Run Road in Pittsburgh. Investigators allege Brandt stabbed a man with a large knife, leaving the victim with a serious leg injury that required hospitalization.

Pittsburgh Police filed the aggravated assault charge earlier this week. Additional details about the circumstances leading to the stabbing have not been released.

Why it matters

The arrest concludes the search for a suspect accused of a violent assault that resulted in serious injuries. The criminal case will now proceed through the Allegheny County court system, where the allegations will be tested in court. Brandt is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
