Philadelphia, PA — A speeding driver was critically injured early Sunday after losing control of his vehicle on Roosevelt Boulevard and crashing into a parked SUV outside a Northeast Philadelphia motel, according to police.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m. in the 7600 block of Roosevelt Boulevard, where officers from the Philadelphia Police Department’s 2nd District and emergency personnel responded to a report of a serious two-vehicle collision.
According to the preliminary investigation, a gold 1999 Acura RL driven by a 30-year-old man was traveling southbound in the outer lanes of Roosevelt Boulevard at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control.
Vehicle crashed into motel parking lot
Police said the Acura mounted the west curb and entered the parking lot of the Roosevelt Inn, where it struck a legally parked and unoccupied white 2022 Hyundai Tucson.
The force of the collision sent debris into the motel building, shattering the glass entrance door and an adjacent window. Authorities said both the Hyundai and the building sustained significant damage.
Driver remains in critical condition
Philadelphia Fire Department medics transported the Acura’s driver to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition with multiple injuries.
No occupants were inside the parked Hyundai at the time of the crash, and no additional injuries were reported.
The Philadelphia Police Department’s Crash Investigation Division is leading the ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision.
