NEWARK, N.J. — Newark police are asking for the public’s help locating a woman wanted for questioning after surveillance video captured a shooting outside a home on Berkley Avenue.
The Newark Department of Public Safety identified the woman as Blanca Salto Yung, who is wanted for questioning in connection with the investigation.
According to police, officers responded at approximately 1:56 p.m. on Monday, July 13, to reports of shots fired in the 100 block of Berkley Avenue.
Investigators said surveillance video showed a man wearing gray sweatpants and a black T-shirt arguing with someone standing in the doorway of a home.
Police said the man was accompanied by a woman who appeared to try to calm him before he allegedly pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired toward the front door.
The suspect then fled the scene in a vehicle.
When officers arrived, they recovered a .380-caliber shell casing from the sidewalk and found a bullet hole in the home’s front door and another in a wall.
Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. is asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of Blanca Salto Yung to contact the Police Division’s Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the Newark Police Division’s website.
Police have not announced any charges against Blanca Salto Yung. They said she is wanted for questioning as the investigation continues.
