Two Kearny detectives earn national cybercrime investigator certification

Department expands its cybercrime investigation expertise.

KEARNY, N.J. — Two Kearny police detectives have earned a nationally recognized cybercrime investigator certification, giving the department three Certified Cyber Crime Investigators as it works to expand its expertise in investigating online and technology-related crimes.

The Kearny Police Department announced that Detective Anthony Nunez and Detective Bryan San Martin earned the Certified Cyber Crime Investigator (3CI) credential from the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C).

According to the department, the certification recognizes investigators who demonstrate the education, specialized training and work experience required to investigate cybercrime and internet-facilitated offenses. NW3C is a congressionally funded nonprofit that provides training and technical assistance to law enforcement agencies across the country.

With the addition of Nunez and San Martin, the department now has three detectives holding the 3CI credential.

Police said the certifications are part of a broader effort to strengthen the department’s investigative capabilities and pursue agency-level certification through NW3C, a designation awarded to departments that meet a required threshold of certified investigators.

In announcing the achievement, Police Chief Scott Macfie said the detectives pursued the certification on their own while managing full caseloads, describing their initiative as an example of the professional standards he wants to see throughout the department.

The Kearny Police Department congratulated both detectives and thanked them for their continued service to the community.
