Crofton man faces firearm charges after deputies discover weapon during late-night stop

LAUREL, MD — A routine traffic stop in Laurel ended with a firearm arrest after deputies discovered a gun hidden beneath a passenger seat, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:35 p.m. Thursday, July 23, when Western District officers conducted a traffic stop on a Volkswagen Jetta in the 3300 block of Laurel Fort Meade Road for a traffic violation.

During the stop, police said the passenger was acting in a suspicious manner, prompting a search of the vehicle.

According to investigators, officers recovered a firearm from directly beneath the seat occupied by the passenger.

Police identified the passenger as Jordan Tyron McKinley, 25, of Crofton.

McKinley was arrested and charged with illegal possession of a firearm and numerous related offenses.

The charges against McKinley are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
