Camden, NJ – A Camden man has been convicted of repeatedly sexually abusing two children over nearly a decade, following a four-week jury trial in Camden County Superior Court.
Miguel A. Mota, 41, was found guilty Monday of four counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, along with multiple additional offenses including sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated sexual contact, terroristic threats and criminal sexual contact, Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay announced.
Investigation began after first victim came forward
The investigation started in April 2020 when a female member of Mota’s household disclosed years of sexual abuse to the Camden County Police Department.
Detectives determined Mota abused the child on numerous occasions between November 2010 and April 2020, when the victim was between 7 and 16 years old. Authorities charged Mota on April 8, 2020, following the investigation.
The case expanded in July 2024 after a second female member of the household reported that she had also been sexually abused by Mota.
Investigators determined the second victim was abused on multiple occasions between December 2010 and April 2020, when she was between 5 and 14 years old. Prosecutors filed additional charges against Mota on July 30, 2024.
Jury hears testimony from both victims
During the four-week trial, both victims testified about the abuse they endured throughout their childhoods.
Jurors convicted Mota of:
- Four counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault.
- Three counts of second-degree sexual assault.
- Three counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
- Two counts of third-degree aggravated sexual contact.
- One count of third-degree terroristic threats.
- One count of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact.
Following the verdict, Mota was immediately remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility to await sentencing. He had previously been released on pretrial monitoring after a detention hearing.
Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 25.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutors Anna Trenga and Roxanna Garcia of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation was conducted by detectives with the Camden County Police Department and the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Trial Team Unit.
