Bicyclist Killed After Collision With Work Truck in Rumson Under Investigation

A 67-year-old cyclist died after a collision with an Isuzu work truck at a Rumson intersection, authorities said.

Freehold, NJ – A 67-year-old bicyclist was killed Thursday afternoon after being struck by a work truck at an intersection in Rumson, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police responded at approximately 12:37 p.m. to the intersection of Ridge Road (Hartshorne Lane) and Navesink Avenue for a reported collision involving a vehicle and a bicycle, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced.

A preliminary investigation found that the driver of a 2024 Isuzu work truck was traveling east on Hartshorne Lane when the vehicle collided with the cyclist, who was riding a Giant-brand bicycle.

Cyclist pronounced dead at hospital

The 67-year-old cyclist was transported to a nearby hospital following the crash but was pronounced dead at 1:27 p.m., authorities said.

Officials have not yet released the victim’s identity pending additional investigation and notification of family members.

The driver of the Isuzu work truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Multi-agency investigation continues

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Rumson Police Department are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
