SAN ANTONIO, TX – A married couple is facing charges after deputies discovered a dead man wrapped “tightly” in plastic and hidden inside a closet at a home on the city’s northwest side, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
Christopher Henson and Margaret Brown, both 30, were each charged with one count of tampering with physical evidence following the Sunday afternoon discovery. Authorities said the case quickly escalated from a missing person report to a homicide investigation after deputies located the body inside the residence in the 700 block of Fort Leonard.
Brown contacted law enforcement around 4:30 p.m. Sunday to report that a 30-year-old man, described as a friend and tenant at the property, was missing. According to a sheriff’s office press release, she told deputies she last saw him around 2:00 a.m. earlier that morning.
Discovery inside the home
“The homeowner, who was present for the report, stated she last saw the missing person at approximately 2:00 a.m. earlier that morning,” the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said. “During a search of the residence, a male subject arrived and was identified as Christopher Henson, Brown’s husband.”
Deputies conducted a more thorough search of the home and located the missing man’s body inside a closet in a vacant room. Investigators said the victim had been placed in a clear plastic bag and showed visible signs of injury.
“The male subject inside the bag exhibited multiple lacerations covering his body,” the release states. “A crime scene was identified within the residence, and evidence indicated that Brown and Henson were attempting to clean the scene prior to deputies’ arrival.”
Authorities said they also observed blood evidence that appeared to have been partially cleaned before law enforcement reached the scene.
Conflicting accounts and ongoing investigation
Brown and another woman staying at the home told deputies the victim had recently begun renting the property. They claimed he left the house earlier that morning after experiencing a “night terror.”
Despite that account, investigators found the man’s body inside the residence and said additional evidence tied to the case may be located at a second property.
“It’s just highly unlikely that anybody would harm themselves and then wrap themselves up in plastic as tightly as what we’ve found here,” said Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar.
Both suspects were taken into custody and booked into the Bexar County Jail, where they are each being held on $100,000 bond. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death remains ongoing.
