After more than a decade serving pizza in Jackson, the family behind Mangia Pizzeria is expanding next door with a newly renovated ice cream shop featuring handmade ice cream, frozen yogurt, and soft serve.

JACKSON, N.J. — The family behind Mangia Pizzeria is expanding its footprint in Jackson, announcing plans to take over the neighboring ice cream shop and transform it into a new destination for premium, small-batch frozen treats.

In a social media announcement, the owners said overwhelming community feedback convinced them to move forward after asking residents what they wanted to see in the vacant space.

“Well Jackson, it’s official. We’re taking over the ice cream shop next door,” the business announced.

The family, which has operated Mangia Brick Oven Pizza in Jackson Township for the past 11 years, said the expansion reflects its continued confidence in the community.

“Taking on this shop is us betting on Jackson the same way Jackson bet on us,” the owners wrote.

Renovations planned before October opening

According to the announcement, the shop will undergo a complete renovation before opening, with owners targeting a launch in mid-to-late October. If construction stays on schedule, they hope to welcome customers during Halloween week.

Rather than purchasing pre-made products, the business plans to make its ice cream in-house in small batches while refining recipes before opening.

“We’re learning,” the owners said. “We’re not going to stand here and pretend we’re ice cream experts on day one. We’re going to put in the work, test everything a hundred times, and nothing goes in the case unless we’re proud to put our name on it.”

The family said it intends to apply the same philosophy that has guided its pizza business for more than a decade.

Frozen yogurt, soft serve and specialty options planned

The new shop will offer several products residents specifically requested during the community survey.

Owners confirmed the menu will include handmade ice cream, frozen yogurt, soft serve, vegan flavors, no-sugar-added selections, and gluten-free cones. They are still deciding whether to add coffee to the menu and encouraged residents to continue sharing their opinions.

The business also plans to document the renovation and recipe development process through new Instagram and TikTok accounts leading up to the grand opening.

Small, locally owned businesses continue to invest in Jackson Township despite broader economic challenges. Mangia’s expansion represents both a business investment and the addition of another year-round dessert destination offering a wider range of options for families and customers with dietary preferences.
