Rockville police say detectives connected Tyler Kennard Thomas to multiple thefts from vehicles after officers spotted him days after releasing a surveillance image to the public.
ROCKVILLE, Md. – A 33-year-old Rockville man has been charged in connection with a series of thefts from vehicles in the city’s West End neighborhood, according to the Rockville City Police Department.
Police identified the suspect as Tyler Kennard Thomas. Investigators said they had been looking into vehicle thefts in the West End for several months before the number of incidents increased significantly in July.

- Police say surveillance video and subsequent investigative work connected Thomas to multiple thefts from vehicles.
- The investigation remains active, and detectives are asking anyone with additional information to come forward.
Detectives obtained surveillance video showing a suspect during their investigation. On Aug. 19, the department released an image on social media and asked the public for help identifying the person.
Officers Spot Suspect Days After Public Appeal
Members of the Rockville City Police Department Special Assignment Unit were in the 200 block of North Washington Street on Tuesday when they saw someone matching the suspect’s description.
Officers detained the man and identified him as Thomas, police said.
Investigators then learned Thomas had an outstanding warrant from another jurisdiction on a rogue and vagabond charge. He was arrested on that warrant while Rockville detectives continued investigating the local thefts from vehicles.
Police said detectives subsequently connected Thomas to multiple incidents in Rockville.
Thomas Faces 12 Charges in Rockville Cases
On Thursday, Rockville police arrested Thomas on charges stemming from the vehicle theft investigation.
Thomas was taken to the Central Processing Unit and charged with six counts of rogue and vagabond, four counts of theft and two counts of attempted theft, according to police.
The department has not disclosed what was allegedly stolen from the vehicles or provided a total value for the property involved.
Police also did not specify how many individual incidents detectives believe are connected to Thomas beyond the charges announced Thursday.

The charges against Thomas are allegations and have not been proven in court.
Tyler Kennard Thomas faces 12 charges in the Rockville investigation.
