ASBURY PARK, N.J. – One of the biggest concerts of the summer hits the Asbury Park waterfront today as Jack Antonoff and Bleachers bring Shadow of the City to the Stone Pony Summer Stage.

Gates open at 3 p.m. for the all-ages festival at 913 Ocean Avenue, with music scheduled through 10:30 p.m. Bleachers headlines a lineup that also includes Real Estate, Toadies, Grace Ives and Bike Routes.

  • Shadow of the City runs from 3 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. today at the Stone Pony Summer Stage.
  • Bleachers headlines alongside Real Estate, Toadies, Grace Ives and Bike Routes.
  • The festival was originally scheduled for May 23 but was postponed because of threatening weather.

The festival’s return gives downtown and waterfront businesses another major summer Friday crowd, while anyone heading into the city this afternoon should expect the usual pressure on parking around the boardwalk and entertainment district during a large Stone Pony Summer Stage show.

Fans have been waiting three months for this one.

Shadow of the City was originally scheduled for May 23, but organizers made the decision to postpone the outdoor festival as bad weather threatened the Shore. Tickets purchased for the original date are being honored today.

“We’ve been speaking to the pony about the bad weather on saturday and have decided it’s best to postpone the show rather than risk it getting cancelled after everyone has traveled in,” Bleachers told fans when announcing the change in May.

Antonoff and Bleachers still gave fans something that weekend, playing a free indoor show at the Stone Pony while moving the full outdoor festival to Aug. 28.

Today, the Summer Stage gets the full festival.

The official lineup features Bleachers, Real Estate, Toadies, Grace Ives and Bike Routes. The show is rain or shine, and $1 from each ticket sold is being donated to The Ally Coalition to support LGBTQ+ youth.

Jack Antonoff Returns to a Familiar Asbury Park Stage

Shadow of the City has always had a strong New Jersey identity, and Antonoff’s connection to the state is a major part of the festival.

The producer, songwriter and Bleachers frontman has repeatedly embraced his New Jersey roots while building a career that has made him one of the most prominent producers in popular music.

Putting the festival at the Stone Pony places it in the middle of the Jersey Shore music scene and just steps from the Asbury Park Boardwalk.

That location also means the festival isn’t happening in isolation.

Several other venues around Asbury Park have shows scheduled tonight, including the Wonder Bar and smaller clubs and restaurants around downtown and the waterfront. Shadow of the City, however, is the day’s major outdoor event.

Parking Could Get Tight Around the Asbury Park Waterfront

Anyone planning to arrive close to showtime may want to leave extra time for parking.

The Stone Pony notes that street and lot parking are available but can be limited on busy summer days. A Friday afternoon festival running into the evening puts concert traffic into the city at the same time beach visitors, restaurant customers and weekend Shore traffic are already moving through the area.

The Summer Stage is located at 913 Ocean Avenue across from the boardwalk.

With gates opening at 3 p.m., activity around the venue should build through the afternoon and remain heavy into the evening as Bleachers closes out the festival.

And the Summer Stage won’t be quiet for long.

Fetty Wap’s Nostalgia Tour is scheduled at the venue Saturday night, giving Asbury Park another major concert crowd less than 24 hours after Shadow of the City wraps up.
