CAMDEN, N.J. – A community softball game in Camden County picked up an unexpected guest over the weekend when the Phillie Phanatic showed up to join the fun.
The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said members of its administration and Community Outreach & Engagement Unit spent Saturday with participants from Luke’s Place, the Rutgers University Police Department and Rutgers-Camden Athletics.
Organizers described the morning as an opportunity to bring people together away from their usual settings, using softball as a way to build connections between community members, law enforcement and Rutgers staff.

The game included participants from several organizations, but the Prosecutor’s Office said the focus went beyond what happened on the field.
“From the first pitch to the last inning, it was a wonderful morning filled with teamwork, laughter, and building connections beyond the ballpark,” the office said in its weekend post.
That morning became even more memorable when the Phillie Phanatic made a surprise appearance.
