Delaware State Police say James Elliott showed signs of impairment after the Aug. 27 collision
LAUREL, DE – A 63-year-old Laurel man has been charged with vehicular homicide following a deadly two-vehicle crash in Laurel after investigators said he showed signs of impairment when troopers contacted him at the hospital.
Delaware State Police identified the man as James Elliott, 63, of Laurel.
The charges stem from a two-vehicle crash that occurred Aug. 27. Elliott was driving a Nissan Frontier involved in the collision, according to state police.
During the investigation, troopers contacted Elliott at the hospital and reported observing signs of impairment.
Investigators subsequently obtained a search warrant for a sample of Elliott’s blood and executed the warrant at the hospital, police said.
Elliott was charged Sept. 3 with vehicular homicide and related offenses. The provided update did not specify each of the additional charges.
Following his arrest, Elliott was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace and committed to the Delaware Department of Correction on a $21,500 cash bond.
