BEACHWOOD, N.J. – Drivers accustomed to parking along several Beachwood streets during the summer need to watch the clock again now that school is back.

The Beachwood Police Department issued a reminder Wednesday that Borough Code Chapter 7-3.4 prohibits parking on designated stretches of five local roads while school is in session. The restrictions run from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. and again from 2 to 4 p.m. on school days from September through June.

Five Beachwood Roads Covered by School-Day Rules

The restrictions apply to Elm Street between Surf Avenue and Berkeley Avenue; Birch Street between Mizzen Avenue and Berkeley Avenue; and Maple Street between Surf Avenue and Berkeley Avenue.

Drivers also cannot park on Mizzen Avenue between Oak Street and Chestnut Street during the designated hours. On Barnegat Boulevard, the restriction runs from Starboard Street to the Pine Beach border beyond Larboard Street.

“These provisions are in place for the safety of our children!” police said in Wednesday’s reminder.

The seasonal rules returned with the start of the new school year after being inactive during the summer months.

Police Ask Drivers to Slow Down as Students Arrive

Beyond parking, officers are asking motorists to pay closer attention as children move through the neighborhood before and after school.

“Please be mindful of these restrictions during the school year and only park in areas not listed above during these hours,” the department said.

Police also urged drivers to “stay alert and slow down” around the affected areas while students are arriving and leaving school.

The restrictions apply on school days through June. Outside the 7:30-to-9:30 a.m. and 2-to-4 p.m. windows, Wednesday’s police notice did not announce any additional seasonal parking restrictions for the listed streets.
